I've never been an Elvis fan, but that has nothing to do with the fact that I don't think this album should've been included here. Mind you, this has been in Rolling Stone's 'Greatest 500 Albums of All Time', a major stretch as well. My parents weren't even a thought in my grandparents' mind in '69, so maybe at that time this was something outstanding (doubt it, since only one song topped the charts), but this list wasn't made in '69. Music has evolved since then, and even if you wanted to, you couldn't listen to EVERYTHING produced since.

My point being, this album is fine, however, why choose an average album over other great ones? Just because it contains Elvis's last no.1 hit? A tribute, a farewell of sorts? We should be focusing on the album not the artist. Of course Elvis was influential, among other favourites of the list's author, but that doesn't mean SO MANY albums of theirs have to be included. Though, to be fair, the rock-n-roll king doesn't have that many when compared to other artists *cough* *cough* Bob Dylan.

I absolutely agree with the inclusion of Elvis on this list (Presley, not Costello, I will never agree with the unjustified amount of Elvis Costello on this list) but I don't think that the albums chosen are the best ones from him. There are better Elvis records in my opinion. Nevertheless, this is a pretty good album, and it has Suspicious Minds on and I love that song, but I will give it a 3 because I am not that blown away and I really think there are better albums to choose from.

Rated 6/10

More enjoyable and filled with more cloying Americana than even other Elvis albums. Not bad.

I decline the church of Elvis

Rated 8/10

First album from the King himself! Well sadly this is a live album, nothing against them but maybe not on this list. Despite that, this is recorded super well and mixed expertly up to the point where it is hard to think this is a live album. Legendary moments with "In the Ghetto" and "Suspicious Minds", so probably easy 4 stars.

Rated 6/10

Suspicious Minds is the highlight and stands out by a country mile. Wanted to rate this higher but there isn't enough at that level to justify a higher score. 3/5.

I wasn’t psyched to be getting an Interview Elvis album, especially one from so late in his career but I was pleasantly surprised by track one. Unfortunately, it was mostly downhill from there until In the Ghetto and Suspicious Minds. Overall I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it.

Rated 6/10

It’s a very gentle, delicate record but not one that’s going to ever get me too worked up. I prefer Elvis when he is getting really weird and wild on the mic, whereas here he is crooning and delivering something more thoughtful and touching. I can see why he was a sensation, but I do find it difficult to replicate that experience as a modern day listener.

Rated 4/10

I've got next to no background with Elvis, and unfortunately this one hasn't left a great impression on me. His vocal style was the main obstacle towards me getting much out of it at all. In an instrumental sense, there's some nice, warm bass work here, and it's clearly an impassioned, personal album from a lyrical perspective, but I just can't do 50 minutes of it.

Rated 2/10

Not a fan. Can't stand gospel, country and soul sounds. My mom loved Elvis I guess, but I don't remember her playing it when I was a kid really. But I do not. That crooning is too much.

Kyllähän Elvis laulaa osaasi. 3.5/5

Rated 6/10

Would lean towards a 3 for now - the backing performances are great and there are a few fantastic tracks here, the quality of the tracks is a bit inconsistent but tonally it actually works quite well as an album.

Ich glaub ich mag Elvis Musik nicht besonders. Kuschelmusik zu der meine Großeltern vmtl. gebumst haben

Rated 8/10

Crazy good production on this album. Much better album than his debut.

Rated 6/10

Prvi put slušam nešto Elvisa da nije obrada ili original te obrade. Ništa mi ne smeta osim što je svaka pjesma ista. Također, ne mislim da je izmislio muziku ili nešto tako hiperbolično što mu se uvijek pripisuje.

Rated 6/10

Not bad. Better at showing off his voice than other albums. 3/5

Rated 8/10

I found this to be the most moving and emotional album on my list so far. Really powerful stuff and I prefer this style of Elvis compared to the more rock 'n' roll Elvis!

Rated 8/10

Whew! I was kinda worried that Elvis wouldn't be on here. But I don't actually know any of these songs except 'Suspicious Minds' (which I like very much, it was my ringtone in college for a while). I was worried from the album title that this would be a live album, but it is not. I'm not sure why I'm so into (the idea of) Elvis; it was partly because of the recent weird Tom Hanks movie which I thought about for weeks afterward, but also I think I just like the songs. Maybe Elvis reminds me of Christmas. Maybe I like that I can understand the lyrics without looking them up. I dunno! But I enjoy it, even though I'd probably only listen to a few of the singles on the reg.

>New logic question for my students just dropped: if Only the Strong Survive and Only the Good Die Young, does it follow that Only the Good are Weak? More interestingly, is there a quantifier you could use instead of "only" that would mean that?

Is Kentucky rain cold?

Highlights: "the floor needs a touch of the mop" (how poetic), 'It Keeps Right On A-Hurtin', 'In the Ghetto' (I thought this was a Nick Cave song!), 'Suspicious Minds' (still a top track imo)

Lowlights: 'I'm Movin' On'

Rated 6/10

Eric Cartman did "In The Ghetto" better.

Favorite songs: Suspicious Minds, I'm Movin' On, Wearin' That Loved On Look, In the Ghetto

Least favorite songs: I'll Hold You In My Heart (Till I Can Hold You In My Arms), It Keeps Right On-A Hurtin', Don't Cry Daddy, Mama Liked the Roses

3/5
