Honestly? I thought I was going to hate this, but in fact, I *really* hated it.

Immediately after listening to this I relistened to the self-titled Slipknot album just to confirm I was not going crazy. Yes, I can confirm that one is still good. This album, however, I would not call good. Not even sure how much ironic enjoyment I can get from this. I find the vocals grating and the rest of the band doesn’t do enough to make up for them. I understand that nu-metal has its place on this list, but I don’t like this one.

Korn is one of my favorite bands of all time, second only to Linkin Park so i came into Follow The Leader expecting nearly everything from it, and yet somehow, I'm still so impressed with how amazing this album is. This album had an incredible sound which blurred all the right lines between heavy, weird and haunting which made my whole listening experience so enjoyable. So many songs also had some really fun and unique ideas with an example being All In The Family which is just two intoxicated men just thinking of the best disses on each other and i just loved every single second of it, in fact every song here is just a pure banger. Hybrid Theory may forever be my #1 but this is still easily a close second.
Best Song: Dead Bodies Everywhere
Worst Song: Earache My Eye
Rated 6/10
Probably the best nu metal band. Might have got 4 if it was shorter and fresh durst didn't show up
Rated 2/10
Nu-metal on kyllä ihmiskunnan suurimpia syntejä. Lapsellista ja raskasta kuunnella. Nyt menee kyl 1/5.
Rated 4/10
Not too my taste but technically well done

Honestly, not as dumb as was expected, but the ridiculously drawn out length tied with the goofy, almost parody level delivery takes this album from being just a boring time waster, to something offensive to the ears. This isn't because of the lyrics, although Fred Durst and co. does spew some garbage, but rather because with each additional track your brain dissolves bit by bit. Seemingly the same forgettable guitar, the same vocal delivery, and you're lucky to make it a track without Jonathan Davis putting on a ridiculous voice that is difficult to take seriously. When we got the bagpipes, I knew no one should take it seriously, no matter how badly Korn wants you to. It's just tiring, a product of its era, and the else said about it perhaps the better. Oddly enough, still see plenty of Korn shirts in 2024... huh.

Korny edgy stuff
some nice instrumentals tho
Rated 8/10
Nunca fui fan de Korn, tampoco mis amigos por lo que los escuché de pasada y no recuerdo nada más que las portadas al verlas en los CD de las tiendas en una época en que había mil cosas que me interesaban más o al menos sabía lo que compraba. Me he guardado "Freak on a leash", "Got the life", "Dead bodies everywhere", "B.B.K.", "All in the family", "Reclaim my place" y "Justin". Una gran sorpresa que me perdí en su momento.
Rated 6/10
Balances out somewhere in the middle. There's some really cool tracks on here, but they are balanced out by the number of similar sounding forgettable tracks and downright uninteresting one. Doesn't justify its runtime too well.
Rated 4/10
Thought I would like this more because nostalgia, but beyond got the life/freak on a leash, I didn’t really enjoy this much. Very same-y and not in a way of “I would have liked this song a lot back then too”
Rated 8/10
This is a stupid, goofball album and the scat singing is hilarious. I know it was meant to be menacing and scary when it came out, but it's as cute as a button now 🥰
Rated 8/10
I used to pretend not to like this, but never changed the channel when it came on MTV. There's something deeply embarrasing about this (the over-wraught teen angst, the scatting), but they're probably the most (top 3 at least) original metal band of the 90s and this is them at the top of their game (the riffs are deep and hard as hell, yet have a real groove to them) and working with a producer who knew how to make them sound good (it's thick, heavy and intense, with layer upon layer of down-tuned distorted), the propulsive . They broke open a new sonic palette in metal, following the loud-quiet dynamics and ultra thick guitars of grunge, but going as hard as possible. That's probably mostly for the worst in terms of their followers, but this album undeniably captures a mood, an embarrasing mood, but a real and widely felt one.
Rated 4/10
It's ... a lot. The industrial sound, especially the guitars aren't bad. But Davis's vocals aren't great. And the songs themselves aren't great. It probably deserves to be on the list just because it's an example of a very popular genre, but it's not for me.
Rated 4/10
I'm starting to think that maybe whoever wrote this list just tricked thousands of people into listening to the worst albums of all time. I literally just listened to emotionally disturbed men singing about dick-sucking, butt-fucking, and Boy George. Korn actually hates any and all audiences that they may have.
Rated 8/10
This album defined a new generation. Truly revolutionary and a sound design that really is associated with Korn. I get that this album is not for everyone, but I enjoyed it a lot.
Rated 8/10
Nu-metal isn't really my thing, but this was actually pretty decent. Some of Korn's style annoys me a little, but there was quite a bit here that I enjoyed. 4/5
Rated 4/10
lmao I'd somehow made it this far without hearing "Freak On A Leash" before. The album hits you in the face with fun insane decisions like that up front, but then drags on so long that it all wears out its welcome extremely hard. Probably my least favorite nu-metal act I've listened to for the project--SOAD was a great time, and even Linkin Park was mostly cute.
Rated 4/10
Back in the late 90's, early 2000's you had two bands that got shared under that weird header 'Nu-Metal' that you would find on almost every summer music festival in Europe: Deftones and KoЯn.
One band I absolutely adored the music and albums of. Around the Fur and especially White Pony were landmarks for this new sound. Heavy with a deep underground layer of angst, superb songwriting, the Deftones were fantastic.
Korn on the other hand were lyrically childish, musically only had one trick and were by all measures uninteresting.
Live though, it was a different story. Deftones just plain sucked. Every time. I don't think I've ever seen them perform well. The sounds and atmosphere they created on their albums never made it to a live experience.
And Korn went the other way. They were able to make even the biggest hater of their music dance and jump and get a little smile on their face when all their fans did the back on forth on Reclaim My Place.
Now back listening to this album... It really has not stood the test of time and wasn't really good to begin with. I think "Got The Life" is the only redeeming feature on an otherwise dull experience. I will never have to revisit this.
I'd see them live though if they were at a festival again.
