This album is carried by tiny dancer, but to be honest I think that’s enough for this to make the list.
Rated 8/10
This is my second favorite Elton John album, behind Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and Elton is one of my favorite artists. I had a really good time listening to this

The second Elton John album I've listened to as part of this project. And again I'm quite taken with it. I had already forgotten the piece "Tiny Dancer". It was nice to hear it again. I think I will listen to this album again. Will I become a fan of Elton John? Probably not, but I will probably give up my previously rather negative attitude.

Pretty nice album full of piano and sometimes rock.

Maybe I've been a bit spoiled by Candle In The Wind since it was my frist album from Elton. It's not bad, but it didn't really strike me as anything that amazing

A masterpiece!

starts out really strong, but fades in the back half. still a good project and worth the listen
Rated 6/10
Would this album be on this list if it didn't have Tiny Dancer on it? I don't think so. That's a brilliant song, one of Elton John's best, but the rest of this album is run of the mill. And what's up with Indian Summer? No way he could record that song anymore. I liked Levon and Madman Across the Water, the rest of it is nothing I would really ever listen to again. I don't know what else (if anything?) from Elton John is on this list, I would imagine the self titled album or Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (or both) probably are. It would be a really weird choice to pick this to be the only Elton John record. I'll give this one a 2.5/5, mostly for Tiny Dancer.

Nothing to dislike about this. The tracks do seem a bit longer than necessary, and the start of the album is a lot stronger than the last half.
Rated 10/10
As always from Sir Elton, chock full of instant classsics. Only Elton can bring so much unironic emotion so readily without being hokey.
Rated 8/10
Tiny Dancer and Levon are fantastic. Pretty standard Elton Stuff after that, so still pretty good.
Rated 6/10
Pretty enjoyable album to me. 3.5/5

Hard to say if this was a 3 or a 4. Elton's unique songwriting is certainly prevalent in this album, and manifests well in some songs, and poorly in others.
Rated 10/10
This album rules way more than I expected! Besides the just masterful songcraft, there’s an edge, like an underlying seething anger that only barely bubbles to the surface. I also feel like Chris Cornell listened the hell out of this record.

Well after that pitiful showing of the last album i did. I am pleased to know that Madman Across The Water is pretty decent. The songs weren't the most memorable and could take some time to get going but when they did get going, they sure did get going. I am glad to have run into a good album again.
Best Song: Indian Sunset
Worst Song: Tiny Dancer
Rated 6/10
I'm not really a massive Elton John fan. He does have a pretty great backlog of classics, but a lot of other songs feel quite similar to me, at least in a structural sense.
On this album I think that kind of holds true. Tiny Dancer is a great song. I (obviously) love the bit where it all kicks off, and you get all the strings coming in along with the piano and the rest of it. A lot of the other tracks are very well done, and are good in themselves, with plenty of decent hooks and melodies... it's just I started to lose a bit of interest after a while.
There's some really good experimentation and variety of instrumentation on this album though. Holiday Inn has some cracking mandolin playing through it for example. Other than that there's violins, keys (obviously) and even some soul backing vocals. So, overall good, just not entirely my jam all in one sitting.
3.5 rounded down.

Solid album. Indian Sunset seems a bit dated, but I still own two copies on vinyl.
