Rated 4/10

Sounds like so many other bands of the time, and every song sounds very much the same.

Rated 8/10

Really enjoyed this. Nice blend of new-wave/post-punk and fun songs. Had never listened to this before and I liked it a lot.

A few really good tracks but the rest was very middle of the road

Rated 8/10

I like this more than I expected to. Nice late UK punk sound with a poppy new wave influence. There's a few down-tempo Joy Division-esque tunes on here, but when it rocks is when it's really on.

Rated 4/10

If you want to listen to Pretty In Pink about eight times on this ten song record, then you'll love this! However, I'm more of a Love My Way fan.

Rated 6/10

This one is hard to judge because it sounds good with certain moods and at certain times of your life. If you're not a melancholy teenager, then this probably isn't good.

Rated 6/10

Good transition album between punk and what would become the new wave scene in the UK. The vocal angst is still there, but the melodies mellower.

Not amazing, not terrible.

Rated 6/10

Vocals and lyrics are a bit Judgy Bowie.

Only knew the song Pretty in Pink before. I don't have any strong feelings about this either way. It's an interesting mix of post punk and jangle pop, and sounds slightly ahead of the curve in that aspect. I like the splashes of saxophone as well. Sounds more like a mid 80s record than an early 80s one. Like the first two songs, Mr. Jones and the last one more than the rest. The singer's voice is slightly annoying but the album isn't long enough for it to really grate.

I couldn't remember Pretty in Pink at all, although I also listened to Talk Talk Talk in the 80s. Overall, the album didn't particularly impress me, but it didn't bother me either.

Though I've complained about monotonous music before, I should be fair and do that here as well...

Yet the Zeitgeist got me sooooo hard!

Pretty In Pink 5*

Hi, this is future me with the edit button, and after listening twice to the album in the last month, I have decided that, though lovely to listen to, I need to downgrade it to a 4*

2nd best

Love the drums! Would never have heard this

Ick

I appreciate their very obvious influence on Brit Pop, but this was a bit to raw / unpolished for me

Rated 10/10

Not sure how these guys have passed me by, but this is spot-on, defining both 80s new wave pop and indie rock in one fell swoop.

Rated 6/10

Good album with a mix of post punk and pop, but just felt a bit samey throughout, not one I’ll come back to I suspect.

Rated 8/10

The missing link between punk and new romantics, like a slightly better generation X. Far from flawless, but enjoyable and interesting, with a couple of great songs.

Rated 6/10

This was fine, nothing really stood out as really good or bad. Probably wouldn't listen to it again, but I didn't hate it. 3/5

Rated 6/10

The definition of a 3, really.

I wouldn’t say it’s bad at all, but it never really makes the jump past “good” – Pretty in Pink is pretty fun, as are 2 or 3 other tracks, but this album feels like it’s missing a specific type of signature song. That doesn’t even mean a super commercial hit or anything, it just needs something that really defines their style and stands out, and I just never found that here. It is 1981 rock, which occasionally dips backwards into the late 70s and occasionally dips forward into some mid-80s R.E.M. type of soundscapes, but it never really settles into a spot where I found myself super deeply engaged with any one song, hence the 3.
