Not one I would have listened to without this list. And tests my scoring system of 4 stars for enjoyed it and will be listening to it again. Because I’m still not sure it’s my thing. But it feels like objectively a great record.

You know when you get a really nice wine? That first glass really hits the spot.

Janis Joplin’s voice is like that.

Listening to a full album = necking a Bordeaux.

Rated 4/10

Joplin has the kinda voice you either love or hate. Unfortunately I don't love it. The band is also pretty mid - run of the mill bar boogie blues. I have gained a respect for JJ over the years...I bet she would have been great to see live. But I still don't enjoy listening to this record.

Rated 6/10

The softer Aretha Franklin worship stuff does not work for me. Pretty great stuff to be had, here, though, as her voice really elevates the songs. "Mercedes Benz" is such a banger though

Rated 10/10

One of those albums where you wonder how anyone in the world dislikes it. The band and her voice are perfectly calibrated. The sound is so warm that you feel like you are right there. She's one of those performers like Paul Simon or Joni Mitchell where you can tease out a subject to any given song, but mostly all the songs are just what it's like to be inside this particular person's head. Or more like heart for Janis. As with the Jimi albums, I just wish there was more.

Wenn ich ein Album unter 40 Minuten sehen kriege ich schon einen Halbsteifen. Album war okay, deswegen auch keine volle Erektion

Rated 6/10

Like a delicious biscuit, very digestible but not much nutrition.

Rated 6/10

I feel like I should be rating this higher but it just didn't hit me like I wanted it to

Rated 6/10

I struggle with this as i can see why some would consider this a great album, but it’s just not for me.
Cry Baby unfortunately just makes me think of the perfume adverts it currently soundtracks.
Half moon shows off Joplin’s vocals but just doesn’t connect. My Baby just sounds like an earlier incarnation of of Cry Baby.
Me and Bobby McGee and Mercedes Benz provide an enjoyable change in style, but there’s not enough to lift this album from just middling.

Rated 6/10

The generator decided to follow Joni Mitchell with Janis Joplin - the 70s female singers are out in force.

Janis sounds like she must have had a permanent sore throat, but I do really like her voice - it's raspy and bluesy, and so full of emotion. And this album has a ton of Hammond organ on it (which I love). And it's a snappy 34 minutes!

I would say I think I enjoyed this a little more that Joni yesterday, but not quite enough for a 4, so

Rated 8/10

Such a great blues record, Janis was such a brilliant singer with so much personality and makes all these songs her own.

Rated 10/10

Long possessed, even longer loved album.
Every song is a unique classic and brought to a new level by her amazing voice. Blues and soul perfectly combined in a heartfelt album of utter joyfulness.

Rated 10/10

“Pearl” is Janis Joplin's posthumously released final album and a deeply moving masterpiece. That expressive voice—and the singer who uses it uninhibitedly to make every song unique! The tasteful arrangements and the great work of the Full Tilt Boogie Band fade completely into the background. I had only sporadically explored Janis Joplin's work before and really enjoyed this album.

Rated 8/10

I must make amends

Rated 4/10

It just sounds all the same, not a fan but I’ll give it 2 stars because of Bobby McGee.

Rated 10/10

Fantastic album. I love it from beginning to end and only wish it were longer.

Rated 6/10

Good but I wasn't too interested.
Note: I accidentally listened to this in shuffle so that may have affected my experience

Rated 6/10

honestly liked it more than morrison hotel. though it feels a lil weird bc it clearly sounds like a drugged up white woman trying to sound like a black woman

Rated 8/10

really enjoyed this album. lot of all time classic songs on it. would listen to it again

Rated 6/10
