It is hard to tell, but it almost sounds like the band wasn't held under house arrest and subjected to psychological deprogramming for a full year eating nothing but soybeans while practicing for this album.
I was surprised that I couldn't remember hearing about this band, and as far as I can tell I've not heard any of these songs before. It seems like the kind of thing that I should like but it felt disjointed and I couldn't get into it.

An album and a band I had never heard of. This is like if Damon Albarn was in The Flaming Lips. It’s like Ween that I could play in the car with my mom (okay maybe it’s not THAT good). So glad I could hear this though. The songs bend genres while maintaining accessible melodies. It loses a point because it’s not the most original thing out there, but it is very well executed. Favorite songs were Rings Around The World, Receptacle For The Respectable, No Sympathy, and Run! Christian, Run!

A really nice surprise. The kind of album that you can put on any time

The name of the band sounded familiar. But maybe I'm confusing it with the title of a song by another band. In any case, I had high expectations. Unfortunately, the album didn't live up to them. It was okay, but I don't feel compelled to listen to it again. I found the pop music a bit boring. 3/5

Felt like Damon Albarns cousins band.
Rated 4/10
I wish I had taken notes while I was listening, because the album just ended and I don't remember any of it. I didn't turn it off, so I'm guessing it wasn't particularly horrible.

Maan I had so much fun with this. Why did i have so much fun with this???
Rated 6/10
This seems sort of cool on the surface, but it kind of just ends up decent. It's kind of hard to pinpoint everything that goes into this sound: there's some alt-rock and electronic and psych. But it's more helpful if I were to just say it sort of sounds like if The Flaming Lips were a little less interesting. I will say, this didn't leave a very strong impression on me, but it is pleasant while it's on. There are some neat moments, but a lot of this doesn't feel like it's executed in a particularly inventive or daring way. That being said, even if Rings Around The World is not an especially interesting album, Super Furry Animals do still seem like a kind of interesting band. Read this as a low three.

Had moments of ELO but a few too few. Was a decent enough album.

I forgot I was listening to it at one point. But it never annoyed me, it was fine.

Copy/paste of my previous SFA album on this list... "I didn't like Super Furry Animals back in 1996 and I don't like them in 2025..."
Rated 2/10
The best part of this album was the part where the music stopped and it was over. The final minute of No Sympathy was pretty interesting, full of weird noises and almost turned into an EDM track. Nothing else on this album came remotely close to being as interesting as that part. A lot of boring joyless and soulless drab, with uninteresting songs. This band didn't need an album on the list, let alone two of them.

I was totally unaware of this group. I was pleasantly surprised by this. I'll likely be listening to this again.

That was fun! I enjoyed the random noises :}

Not bad but there were enough Oasis soundalikes already in 2001.

Ok?

I gave the last SFA album a high three stars. I'd say I like this a bit more; I think it's in four star territory for me.

I recently gave this band about half of the "Discog in a Day" treatment whilst on my travels, with practically zero prior knowledge of them. Super Furry Animals didn't really land for me at that point, needing a hell of a lot more time and some less chaotic listening conditions to properly digest, however I probably would've had this album down as the most immediately accessible of those that I'd given a go (Fuzzy Logic through to Phantom Power).
Revisiting this one, with a fresh pair of ears, has done it the world of good. It's absolutely beaming with warm, gorgeous textures, does whatever the hell it wants and has plenty to unpack with repeat listens. I'd be highly inclined to come back to this.
