Rated 6/10

I’ve never liked this album as much as Marshall Mathers LP onwards but still there’s some really good tracks on here.

Rated 8/10

Date and juvenile and better than it has any damn right to be.

Rated 8/10

The absolute way this guy dismissively negates any way his music would have any influence on kids or society, or that his words could be hurtful to women or LGBTQ people. Starting with an incense PSA so you could point to it and say “See? See?! YOU’RE the monsters!”

I mean. He gives the reason to not rape a girl as because she’s underage? Drugging her and doing it would be fine if she’s 18?

I also can see the side of: “This is art, like it or not. It portrays things you don’t like, but it’s still powerful and well done.”

Anyway…a conflicted 4 stars.

Rated 6/10

Listenable only if you don't hear the lyrics.

Rated 8/10

Raunchy comedy rap with clever lyrics. Rhythm is solid. Not a big rap fan but I enjoyed it.

Rated 8/10

It’s certainly unique. Yes it’s shouty, yes it’s sweary, yes he’s pushing every limit to the extreme, but it’s good.

Rated 8/10

I remember the first time I heard the song My Name Is, I literally said out loud, "Oh my god, Dre, what are you doing?"

Turns out, I was very, very wrong. Not only is the song an all time great, so ids the album AND the artist. Eminem gets a lot of ink for being a white rapper, but amongst all the unique things about this album, his race is nowhere near the most interesting, influential, or radical.

I've really spent a lot of time trying to decide the ranking for this album. with 25+ years of hindsight, I can say that this album launched the career of an all-time great, a cultural and musical phenomenon, a genius lyricist without peer. On the other hand, the lyrics are no longer shocking and, in fact, can seem attention-seeking and cringy. I would give this a 4.5 if I could. I don't think it's his best album, and I do think that it tails off a bit in the second half. Up to this point I've tried to reserve 5 star reviews for only the most special of albums, and I don't think this one *quite* lives up to that.

Rated 4/10

Für R&B ein eher besseres Album mit dem Top-Track „My Name is“. Leider war der Rest für einen notorischen Genre-Skeptiker nich genug für den 3. Stern. Schade.

Rated 6/10

Some big nostalgia bombs on this one. But what seemed edgy and hilarious when I was in college kind of feels crass and juvenile now.

Rated 4/10

Did not age well.

Rated 8/10

My thoughts are so divided here... and that is probably the point.

Rated 2/10

After listening to The Slim Shady LP, all i can say is "Dear god, this album sucks". The lyrics and rapping are very dumb and not in the funny kind of dumb, just the cringey kind of dumb and very offensive to some people and it also lacks a proper structure. The instrumentals are fine and are probably the best part of the album but unfortunately some of the sound effects and samples used are annoying to say the least and can also tend to lack structure at some points. I have a problem with nearly every aspect of this album and there are almost no good things about it. Not a good combination.
Best Song: Rock Bottom
Worst Song: Guilty Conscience

Rated 8/10

Bumping this score up by one point to attempt to offset the reviews that either hate hip-hop for no reason or misunderstand the point of the character of Slim Shady. Shoutout the Labi Siffre sample on My Name Is. Highlights are My Name Is, Guilty Conscience, Rock Bottom, and Still Don’t Give A Fuck.

Rated 6/10

I totally understand it/him not being everyone’s thing. I don’t think it’s a spectacular record by any means; the first two tracks are easily the best in my opinion, and the last half of the album drags a bit. I also fully understand why anyone would be turned off by Em’s lyrics/delivery, and truth be told, I don’t think he nails it on every song. But when he’s at the top of his game, I think his depravity is extremely effective, be it humorous or unnerving. And I’ll be damned if “My Name Is” (and it’s beyond tasty Labi Siffre sample) doesn’t hit hard for me every single time.

3.5/5

Rated 4/10

I really don't remember this album being this bad. What was I thinking at the time?

Rated 4/10

This has the same energy as a 4chan edgelord incel. Eminem gets a lot of "the lyrics are horrible but he's the best rapper" which is not true, there are much better rappers. 2.42 per track.

2.5 per track.

Rated 4/10

Ristiriitaiset fiilikset. Toisaalta shokeeraus tuntuu lapselliselta, toisaalta kiinnostavaa miten ravisteli aikanaan. Taitavat tuottajat ja toki Eminem itsekin on mestari lajissaan. Ehkä silti kakkoseen jää.

Rated 4/10

Oh fuck yes. Maybe the first album I already know front to back! I made my dad buy this CD and I played it for him and I'm pretty sure he hated it. I guess I am a little embarrassed to say I loved this but fuck it. There is a reason it ended up as one of 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. It is a classic. It was my punk rock, the album I used to differentiate myself from my parents. It gave me the tools needed to never be offended by anything and to have the darkest sense of humor. I mean the album cover is a woman dead (Oh, mama, she's takin' a little nap...) in the trunk of a car while a man contemplates getting rid of the body with his little baby. Dark shit. Men love to shit on their wives for some reason, but Eminem did that shit darker than them all. I can't wait to listen to this at almost 37 years old and see if it holds up. "Try 'Cid" never realized that was a shortened form of acid. Eminem is apparently the only person who could ever rhyme anything with orange (door-hinge) and that's why this album is on this list. At the same time... Has this aged well? Was it good or do I just have some weird nostalgia for it? As I listened to it today I got very bored with the kill-this-bitch-please theme. Over and over. What was wrong with this man? Or was it all an act? Oddly enough I think this came out when I was within a range of ages that this album was made for. Kids who liked terrible music and made their parents listen to it because they wanted to offend them, that was the age I was. It probably worked a little but looking back it was very immature. Kind of the same as this album. It was made to offend. Made to shock. As a kid I wasn't shocked and a lot of this went over my head, but I found it funny. I do appreciate when rap makes me laugh and I believe good rap has a comedic aspect to it. But this is actually pretty violent. I am not offended and I know it's a joke, but when I listen to this now it seems boring. I thought the whole album was good when I was younger, but now I realize there are a few songs I enjoy and the rest is just the same themes over and over. When I saw this come up today, 12 year old me was ready to give this 5 stars. 36 year old me appreciates some of the music behind the lyrics and Eminem's flow but the jokes haven't aged well and neither has the mysogyny.

Rated 4/10

This came out when I was 15 and I never listened to it, so I don’t have any nostalgic attachment to it. (I do love the Marshall Mathers LP, though.) Now I’m 40 and clearly not the target audience.

Never been a huge fan of My Name Is. I have always liked Guilty Conscience. I think those were the only two I was familiar with ahead of time, although the beat on Role Model sounds familiar and it was a single, so maybe I heard it at some point.

Much of the rest of it sounds so half-baked and unfinished, especially compared to MMLP, which I think is a masterpiece. I ended up enjoying I’m Shady. Bad Meets Evil was underwhelming, which was disappointing because I like Royce da 5’ 9”.
