Sucks
Rated 10/10
Not as heavy and epic but more high energy and lighthearted than Nothing’s Shocking. Still a fantastic record even if it does trail off a bit towards the end.

Jane's Addiction is a band I've heard a lot about, but had never listened to
This was a good album. Loved the guitar. Only like 35 years late to the party

I mean - an absolute classic and journey through rock, punk, and fun.

Just over a year since Ritual De Lo Habitual was originally generated and the generator gives me another Jane’s Addiction album, Nothing’s Shocking. The whole time listening to Nothing’s Shocking I was remembering that I didn’t really enjoy Ritual De Lo Habitual all that much. I wasn’t really sure why because I was really enjoying everything I was hearing. I decided to have another listen of Ritual after finishing up with Nothing’s Shocking and I am surprised to find that I'm really enjoying it this time around. Jane’s Addiction seems to sit at a solid mid point of alternative music between metal and grunge. Plus there's a lot of interesting experimentation and bits of psychedelic music thrown in. I'm shocked that I didn't get on with this the first time around.

Could not be bothered
Been Caught Stealing is the most irritating song that Huey plays on a regular basis.

this is what bi-polar sounds like

This was one of the early rock albums I had growing up. I have a soft spot for it because of that. It's not an all time classic, but it was fun to spin it again today.

Funk punk band with classic rock ambitions with a charismatic but annoying singer for high energy, bloated thrusting. They have a very unique sound - the distinctive combination of vocal style and effects paired with the wash of guitar creates a huge expansive feel. The last third is the best. Exactly what the band of the host of a reality tv show about tattoos should sound like.

Pretty good.

I think the power in this record is that it sounds like a band at its peak relationship with the songs. They know what they want to achieve but they aren't stale yet. And that has been captured live in the studio for the most part. I also like how odd Perry Farrell's voice is and how it has been processed.
I like how it sounds like they've taken lots of different rock music as reference points and not so much blended them as hit the pulse button a couple of times.
Lyrically it's more of a mixed bag. A classic 'girl' giving a 'MAN' a great idea is a bit of a clanger. But the one that always makes me chuckle is him being so chuffed at having a threesome he declares himself 'Erotic Jesus'.

it’s decent. i thought id enjoy it a bit more

I thought I would like this more, but there were only a few good songs in my opinion. 3/5

I generally liked this album. I really liked his voice specifically. Some songs went on a bit, but I really enjoyed a few, namely Then She Did... and Been Caught Stealing. 3/5

Man, this album really tanked after Been Caught Stealing. Before that, the album was fairly solid 90's alt rock. Then it got weird.
Favourite songs: Been Caught Stealing, Stop!
Least favourite songs: Three Days, Then She Did..., Of Course

I feel like I should like Jane's Addiction more than I actually do. The era, the genre, the style - all the boxes are ticked, but somehow I was just never that into them. It's not bad at all, Farrell & Navarro are undeniably a charismatic, talented duo. And yet, I struggle to raise enthusiasm above "that was OK".
tldr : 3 stars - it's OK

Crap album
Whiney

Doesn't hit me as hard as the first album, but still very good.

Great late 80’s early 90’s rock album,

Its clear why this group and this album are considered groundbreakers in the alternative genre. This music is fun, heartbreaking, silly and morose all at any given moment and there are truly gifted, skilled musicians in this group and some interesting song writing ideas and thought provoking lyrics.
And then there is Perry Farrell's voice. Sheesh. It reminds me of why I only put this on when I want to stroll down memory lane or listen to the instruments while hoping there is a vocal-less mix out there that will drop someday.
