Prince is a legend and if anyone in pop history is a "musical genius," it's him. In the past I've (wrongly) considered him overrated. What's not to love about this extremely weird and catchy album?
Rated 6/10

What a sexy album

If I was as sexy as Prince I'd probably be this horny too to be fair

Imagining Prince laying down some sick guitar solos right now...
This record fits itself right into the 80s canon. Those synths, guitars, and reverb drums pair well with Prince's heartfelt singing. His vocal deliveries give off a joyful, almost manic vibe to the songs. Plus extra point for "Purple Rain" as it sounds so much like an 80s "Mayonaise". (4-4.5)
Rated 4/10
The songs on this album have that typical 80s synthy sound with the added effect of sounding what I would describe as grand (it is a soundtrack for a movie, after all). Funnily enough, I was already familiar with "Darling Nikki" because I had first heard the Foo Fighters cover it before listening to the original (I like the extra instrumentation on this song). Overall, I'm generally not into this style of music but I can appreciate why it's on this list. Prince's singing voice and skilled use of guitar, drums, and synths elevate the songs and make them stand out from all of the other stereotypical 80s fare (particularly the guitar work). "Purple Rain" is a beautiful closer to the album, especially the ending minute of the song. I'm rating it a 2 simply because it's just not my thing, though.

Never properly listened to Prince before and I have clearly been missing out
Rated 8/10
Easy 4. Amazing man amazing musician. Loaded with hits and also the song (Darlin’ Nikki) that made Tipper Gore mad and led to the explicit stickers.
Rated 8/10
A short musical genius with big hair that loves screaming guitars and purple … wait of course I should have known it’s not RJD … as there are no dragons .
Sorry I get Dio and Prince mixed up all the time. But love both .
Unlike the film this has aged pretty well , even if it is hard to separate the two.A brilliant collection of rock fused funk .
Rated 10/10
An absolute staple of course, this album perfectly encapsulates the sound of the 80s. Every track has something new and unique, combining to make a masterpiece, showing off Prince's absurd musical talent.

Ei mitään turhaa levyllä, pelkkää nautintoa! 5/5

I never got around to truly enjoying Prince. But he is a hell of an artist and this album is a masterpiece.

Prestani sa ovom dernjavom pliiiiiz. Koliko god me iritira sve od Princa ovo je dosta bolje od 1999 pa je na osnovu toga zaslužilo 3 zvjezdice.
Rated 8/10
Good album. I’ll listen to this more and it also makes me want to check out more from Prince. 4.5/5

𝘗𝘶𝘳𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘙𝘢𝘪𝘯 is one of those albums where the ambition and execution line up so perfectly that it feels untouchable. Prince blends rock, pop, funk and drama with complete confidence, shaping a record that’s both wildly accessible and unmistakably his own. The title track alone is a 5/5 — a towering ballad that builds from gentle longing to stadium-sized catharsis without ever losing its emotional clarity. The rest of the album supports it with sharp songwriting, bold production and performances that make the whole thing feel iconic from start to finish. It’s Prince at his peak.

Funky, sweet, beautiful masterpiece. Really great album, probably 5 stars, up 1 star just because of the title track. On RYM I have rated this one 4.5, but will probably go to the max here, why not. I think I should REVISIT some of the songs I am not as much familiar with later on!

Just finished watching the finale of Stranger Things and the first song and last song on this album are used to great effect.
Purple Rain is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. The last 4 songs on the album really end it on a bang. Not a perfect album though due to some weak songs in the middle.
4/5.
