Very interesting, diverse record. Drags a bit near the end, but I can see myself warming to this one even more.

As you know with this challenge, I really struggle with music in another language. I connect most with lyrics and storytelling, and that’s something I just can’t fully access here. Because of that, this album never really grabbed me in the way I want music to.

I found it pleasant enough as background music, the sort of thing you can have on while not really paying attention. But beyond that, it didn’t leave much of an impression, and I have no desire to come back to it again.

Favourite track: Soy loco por ti, América is probably the standout if I had to choose one.
Least favourite tracks: Hard to pick. I didn’t hate anything, but I also never want to listen to any of it again. This is the very definition of background music.
Album artwork: Superb. Colourful, intense, and that stare is properly evil — easily the best thing about the album.

Was going to give it a 3 but it's going to have to be a 1 due to the pedo stuff

The Good: I’ve always wanted to listen to an album by Caetano Veloso!
The Bad: Now that I have, I wish I hadn’t…
The Ugly: Yet another album = artist name

So here’s the positive thing I learned from this album: the listing “other”, which relates to country of origin for the album, is wrong… Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors is listed as “other”…

Anyway, I was excited when this album showed up as I’ve been using this artist’s name for ages, and it turns out that I’ve been using it erroneously.
I thought that Caetano Veloso was some kind of Spanish singer… guess I was wrong.

I know that there are several “Brazilian” tinted albums on this list and I’ve had the fortune of listening to a couple of them already. Yet, this is the second, or third, Brazilian album that makes me wonder what the fuck it is doing on the list… together with countless other shit albums I’ve had the misfortune of having to listen to.

If the criteria to be on the list is to be the first of a style, then the list’s name should be changed, and shortened… as there can thus be only 1 jazz album, 1 rock album etc…
This album, by the by, falls under the style of shit…

You guessed it boys and girls, I am unable to rate this album any higher than 1*… and that makes 3 days in a row with 1* ratings… keeping my fingers crossed to see what the next album is...

Nou vooruit. 3 sterren dan.

I grew up listening to punk but I think weird, loose tropicalia may be my retirement home.

Rated 6/10

Serious Vigo the Carpathian vibes from the headshot on the cover. As for the music, it was interesting and I'm happy to have heard it. Subtle psychedelic sounds mixed into samba / bossa nova. It's definitely not something I would have ever listened to outside of this list. I also can't really see myself ever returning to it other than the last two songs, which I actually found myself enjoying quite a bit.

Rated 4/10

All things considered, very forgettable. The tracks blended together and it wasn't entertaining enough to catch my interest.

Rated 6/10

Jeg syns dette var overraskende kult, og digga de 3-4 første låtene. Så føltes det som et søkk av mer eller mindre det samme, før vi var oppe og nikka med "Eles" igjen. Tipper samlealbumene til Veloso er utrolig kule.

Rated 2/10

Perhaps I lack the patience for it today. I can't relate to the music. After listening to two tracks, I was overcome by an urgent desire to switch off and listen to something else. 1/5

A lovely record buzzing with subtly psychedelic flourished arrangements and intricate rhythmic layers. The flute in “Clara” would be a prime example, as would the sitar in “Eleanor” or the organ in “Soy Loco por Ti, América.”

The record starts right off on a strong note: the jazzy bossa-psych gem “Tropicália” is a clear highlight of Caetano Veloso’s self-titled full-length. Elsewhere, opaque and swirling string arrangements serve as a backdrop for the laid-back tracks that follow. The strings definitely add an intriguing and frankly beautiful touch to the songs, which are rooted in traditional Brazilian styles and African rhythms (again, “Soy Loco por Ti, América” has to be mentioned as a standout) - an art and musical movement that bears the same name as the aforementioned opening tune.

Caetano apparently called his debut outing “amateurish and confused.” Well, maybe that only adds to its charm, because it’s a beautiful little marvel. I’d rather say it sounds adventurous and is buzzing with playfulness.

By the way, just as strong as it opened, the record closes with the sitar-assisted, psychedelic, surf-rock-infused “Eles.” Nice.

Pretty chill to just hang out in your bedroom to. It's a decent enough selection of Latin music that doesn't wander on for too long.

Lovely music. Kind of the start to the whole Tropicalia movement. I love how MPB music effortlessly blends music from all over the world together, the last track was a real surprise with it's Eastern influence. Beautiful album, beautiful album cover. There's MPB albums I like more and are a bit better, but this one came before all of those.

So this is basically 60s psychedelic pop from Brazil? I don't understand any of the lyrics, not being fluent in Portuguese, so I kind of just have to listen to the music here. Musically, it seems to mostly use 60s rock instrumentation to create the same psychedelic soundscapes typical of American bands of the period. However, it does incorporate some traditional Brazilian percussion and bossa nova with its psychedelic stylings. Unfortunately, I didn't really care for it much.

Rated 4/10

I wasn't expecting this looking at the cover. It was at least interesting. I didn't love it but it was something else.

Rated 4/10

I'm all for these fun and unique albums, but this combination just didn't hit it for me. His vocals didn't really please me either. But I'm happy that this was included and that I got to listen to it.

Rated 6/10

Smooth and flowing. Nothing that will make me listen again.

Rated 4/10

Technically fine, just doesn't click decades later

Rated 6/10

So the revolutionary meaning is pretty lost when you don’t speak the language. A very interesting album to listen to, but I really only found myself enjoying about half of it

Rated 8/10

This was a fun one. I love this kind of sound. Makes me imagine sipping coffee at a cafe in Rio. Extra credit for the wonderfully weird album art and bizarre looking portrait of Veloso.
