The music is laid back funk and Badu delivers jazzesque neo soul vocals, what’s not to like. I prefer Baduizm, but there’s enough here to enjoy.

‘Kiss my neck’ goes on a bit too long, but i like the more acoustic feel of ‘A.D 2000’ which works well as a counter balance.

Her voice is lovely, there were rather more n-words than I was anticipating, it was far too jazz for me in places, and the eating a lot of vegetables song really confused me (and felt like it was never going to end). I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more had the runtime been more reasonable (even with me ignoring the last Japanese edition/European reissue bonus track). As it is, this is getting a:

2/5 (but is really a 2.5)

Good album, I really liked Orange Moon and Green Eyes. Just probably won’t be one that comes to mind as something I really need to listen to again.

Season: Late Autumn
Favorite Song: Orange Moon

Rated 6/10

What if they made a whole album out of 'the cut'? Warm and buttery, mellow and pillowy soft, an easy going blend of funk jazz and soul with rich arrangements and laid back but perfectly in the groove playing across a huge swathe of instruments. Her voice fades in and out of the blend, an extra texture, a bit of high end melisma floating around, a fleeting focal point - an album that's more about the vibe than the hook.

eh. premda je što se instrumentalne razine tiče, glasovno i tekstovno nikako mi se ne sviđa. premonotono, sve se nekako stopi u jednu zamornu cjelinu koja ne ostavlja dobar dojam

Rated 6/10

Definitely an interesting listen, but not really up my alley overall. Found a few songs that I enjoyed, though.

Rated 6/10

Enjoyed it. Didn’t super stand out to me.

Rated 6/10

Never heard before. Liked it. Will listen again

Rated 6/10

kinda lo-fi hiphop

on any song the bwomp-a-womp-wompa-wowowa would fit

Rated 8/10

A fascinating and soulful rendition of what it means to be heartbroken.

Rated 6/10

Pretty sexy and silky and at the same time- kinda boring.

Rated 6/10

Once again, skillfully made art that does absolutely nothing for me.

Rated 6/10

no complaints but i can’t see myself relistening

Rated 8/10

Rated 10/10

Reminds me of D'Angelo's Voodoo and the Roots. And just like those albums, I like the sound that Erykah expanded on from Baduizm. Those drum beats are hypnotic and her vocals give it a certain "ASMR" quality. I know I say retro a lot but this is the right adjective to describe this record.

Rated 8/10

Enjoyed that a lot more than I expected….

Great album.

Opening track gave me chills it was so good. Total '70s soul throwback! Some of the production on here is a little sterile (modern), and not all the tracks live up to that first one, but this is still a great album. Loving the use of live instruments and the obvious reverence paid to classic soul here without outright mimicking that sound.

Rated 8/10

Just on the 1st listen this morning to work and I am already thinking this might be the best modern R&B album I have heard on this list, she is sick, and I am too, but not in a good way. P.S. I knew coming into this, that it will at least be 3 stars, but really I think I will be giving this album a 4 stars, it's really that good. I will be REVISITING her in the future for sure.

Rated 6/10

Some decent r&b. But nothing that felt particularly special or attention grabbing.
