I never really understood what made Neil Young popular or lauded. This recording sounds like it was taken from the next room over, the music (aside from sedan delivery) isn't wildly innovative for the time, and lyrically it feels only fine. Maybe it isn't for me?

I thought the more of hear this guy is finally get it. But man. It's just terrible. I hate how he doesn't really sing but clearly doesn't have any flow like a rapper either. I must have dozed off because somewhere around the halfway point someone plugged in a guitar which at least made it listenable. Probably because it went a little way to masking his horrible lyrics and voice. Every time he is on my list I swear at myself for blowing to listen to these albums the whole way through.

I’m so over Neil Young on this thing but this is one of the better ones.

These songs were so nice, I really enjoyed the album!

It's a shame that Neil's voice isn't great. These songs could have been even better

A nice mix of acoustic and electronic tracks. Young's voice is quite relaxing and lovely to listen to, but I do get the common criticism that everything starts to blend together.

Rated 10/10

I love how its essentially two halves of an album. Going from slow and acoustic to fast and distortion drenched means there's a great build up. Especially towards the end with Sedan Delivery and the final track. Love how Hey Hey, My My also comes back as an electric track in the end. The songs themselves are brilliant and melancholic. Another great Neil young album.

Rated 6/10

Some nice songs, with nice melodies, singing and guitar work.

First half: 🥱

Second half: kinda cool, why wasn’t the whole album like this ??

Rated 6/10

Creative songwriting and a great band help this album along. A bit more effort to really get the songs to the next level, along with improved vocals, would help a bit more.

Rated 6/10

The Good: we learned something new today, and that is that Rust Never Sleeps…
The Bad: if rust never sleeps, it means it just keeps expanding…
The Ugly: the whole world covered in rust, and no sleep… nightmare!

Let it be reiterated: I really don’t like Neil Young.

Let is be noted: I actually enjoyed album, maybe because it is technically speaking a live album, and there is a real good groove going on, I don’t know… but I feel conflicted.
The guitar work is awesome, the production work even better as you hardly notice it is live, and the harmonica work is eerily perfect.

So what do I give this album? Should I deduct points for Neil being Neil?
Needle is at the 3*, will give it one more listen, and see if the needle adds a point…

Very solid, but I don't really go with the lyrics or overall vibe.

TBH I'd be happy if this album was just 20 minutes of "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" followed by 20 minutes of "Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)". The rest is decent but not outstanding, but those two songs (or two variants one song?) are just fantastic.

Rated 2/10

Mind-numbingly boring and formulaic rock. Everything is humdrum and by rote. Save yourself the time and skip this one.

Rated 6/10

Enjoyed the first half of the album more than the second half; this was ok.

Rated 10/10

One of my favourites, and possibly his best album. I was so glad to see it back on Spotify, and listened on repeat until I ran out of time. A precursor to grunge, and not just because Kurt quoted lyrics from it. The combination of live recording with studio tidying up works really well, allowing to get the raw energy of a live set with the distinct and mistake-free fidelity of a studio take. Why do more people not use this as a technique?

Rated 6/10

I don't really like the format of this album, which is overdubbed live tunes combined with a couple outtakes from the studio. It's also half acoustic and half electric, which makes it feel even more disjointed.

There's good-to-excellent material here, but the execution was flawed.

Rated 4/10

I never want to hear another Neil Young album in my life. It's absurd that he has >10 slots on this list of 1001 albums and only ~75 albums have been added from between 2001 and 2021. 2/5.

Rated 8/10

I have it #5 on my all time Neil Albums - very solid

Rated 8/10

This album contains a bunch of cool rock n roll music.

I enjoyed the whole album.
