Rated 2/10

The Good: That I never will have to listen to this ever again?
The Bad: That I actually had to listen to this?
The Ugly... my brain hurt in technocolor...

On Apple Music this album is only available as a deluxe (which in this case means a double album)... and I believe that I am going insane...

Won't waste more words on this.. EMD is repetitive shite.

Hate 1*

ps I know there are people who will defend this music to death.. and good for you, honestly, because it is important to really believe in things... just accept that I hate this.

The Good: We get some G. Love!
The Bad: The waiter ignoring our "hold the special sauce" bit...
The Ugly: Album and Artist share the same name...

When the album popped up, something in the back of my head said "you're in for a fun time"... then I started listening to the album, and I had to crawl into my head, make my way to the back, and question the something which previously had kept my hopes up high...

Not that the album is bad.
However, in order to really enjoy this album there are several factors that come into play:
1) you need to have attended college in the '90s
2) you need to have spend too much time in a coffee shop
3) you need to have a really open mind

Now, I check all the boxes above, yet still find listening to the entire album start to finish a chore.
It's a little too much of this, a little too little of that... guess the special sauce was missing?

3* because, well, there are far worse albums I have had to listen to on this list...;

Rated 6/10

The Good: Our expectations are well managed as we're told this is going to be bad!
The Bad: The album...
The Ugly: MJ in a SM outfit...

Thriller was killer! Bad... for me, aged terribly.
If memory serves me well, there was an idea to have MJ and Prince work together on this album... then again, my memory is shot.

I would argue that MJ started becoming a caricature due to this album. It started his whole "uniform" look, him trying to be tough... yet with his voice that never really worked for me.

Out of respect for the man I am going to give this album a 3*, however, if I never have to listen to it again it would be perfectly fine with me...

The Good: I guess we only have to lay half the bricks?
The Bad: Still too many bricks...
The Ugly: Them little details in the album cover...

Why in the name of all that is holy did Mr D decide that we need to listen to 2 albums of this waste of time band?
Not me...

Album is palpable, yet, it doesn't have anything extra that would make it special.
Now that I've listened to it, I can turn the page, and get back to my voodoo doll of Mr D so that he can suffer a little more like he's been making me suffer...

2* for not being absolute crap

The Good: We are listening without prejudice!
The Bad: We realize that prejudice, sometimes, is not a bad thing...
The Ugly: Our prejudice telling us what it is thinking...

Jorge, Jorge, Jorge... what the fuck?
Freedom was a smash hit, it could've used a little more of that smash and a little less of the "look at me trying to be something else".

Not that this album was bad, it just wasn't what I had hoped it would've been... I love the album Faith because it is just fun... it oozes fun... this oozes pretentiousness, and I am not a big fan of that...

So, a coin was flipped... and 3* will be given.

The Good: We are certain that things are going downhill!!!
The Bad: We all love Arthur, that drunken fool...
The Ugly: Realizing the decline and fall refer to the album...

I am not a fan of the Kinks, and this album has not done much to change that.
Sure, there are diddly diddles on this vinyl, yet, somehow, they aren't enough to make me want to listen to this album again...

And what's with the odd German accent song there in the middle? Guess humor has changed a lot since those late '60s

So, let's flip that coin to see if it lands on 2 or 3*...

The Good: We know what the Lady is wearing...
The Bad: When we remove the satin, we find the lady is wearing something else...
The Ugly: Lady is a tramp...

So, the aficionado crowd will love this... I don't
Why? Well, sometimes the missus and I are walking through the city, and we will start pinching one and other when another "forever young" comes walking by...

Though I know mrs Holiday had a very strong voice and persona, to me, this album is like watching DLR currently touring, or any of the '80s rockers who should have hung up their spurs a while back.

I don't care that this is considered gold... it is unpolished silver that looks like it should be placed back in the musky backroom where it was found.

2 1/2* which i am still uncertain if I should bump it up or not?

Tres hombresZZ Top

Rated 10/10

The Good: We get to see a great western comedy!
The Bad: That my Spanish is so bad, thus no Chevy Chase, Martin Short or Steve Martin...
The Ugly: Imagining the afore mentioned with ZZ style beards...

Fuck me, this was so enjoyable on the second listen!
It has soul, it has funk, it has rock, and blues and even a little country... what a great melting pot of music.
Also, one can hear where Joe Bonamassa got his sound from.

Also, chalk another 5* up to the '70s!!!

Would give 6* if I could

The Good: we get to listen to someone freewheelin'
The Bad: we are sensitive to those who break the law...
The Ugly: Realizing that we misread the entire title... and really the album is called Bob Dylan...

There is nothing that I might say about this album that hasn't been said before... however, I will give one thing a go...

Many moons ago, I was living on the other side of the world, and I had an album by Joe Cocker called Mad Dogs And Englishmen, and on that record there are a couple of excellent songs--actually, the entire fucking album is excellent, so go and listen to it--and one of the songs is a duet between Joe and Leon, which is The Girl From The North Country... and wow wow wow...

Anyway, what a great fucking album this is...

5*

The Good: Pet Shop Boys
The Bad: Pet Shop Boys
The Ugly: Actually liking it...

I think I am starting to suffer from new albums a day fatigue... this is album 811, however, I've had 818 presented to me, yet only rated 805...

There is nothing bad about PSB, yet, there also isn't much grand about them either. They are what they are, a good example of '80s pop, of how you don't need to go over the top et al.

The songs on the album, mostly, are easy to listen to... yet, if I rate this 4* then I will have to listen to it again... and I don't know if I am ready for this at this moment in time...

So, they deserve 4*, but I am giving them 3*... due to fatigue...

Rated 10/10

The Good: We’re going to have tea!
The Bad: Tea’s in the harbor…
The Ugly: band and album name is the same…

Wow. And here I thought that I only knew More Than A Feeling as a Boston song, turns out I am familiar with every song on this album…

If you’re going to have a freshman album, then it might as well be this one.
Though, they kind of used up all their creativity as I can’t recall any Boston songs from other albums…

Oh well… another great album from the 70s

5*

The Good: We are getting enchanted!
The Bad: Not enjoying the slanted...
The Ugly: Hitting the pavement slanted...

I didn't like the other Pavement album either...
To think that there are so many other indie bands which could've been included and aren't... or just nice albums which could've been included but aren't...

Guess I am just going to have to suck it up, realize that there are probably going to be at least another 100 bad albums I will need to listen to...
Oh, just so you don't have to worry, all sharp objects have been removed from my house!

2*

The Good: The Boatman gave a call...
The Bad: He wants his boat back...
The Ugly: Boat done sunk, boatman's gonna come calling for a whooping...

I don't like Nick Cave... I know that he's the darling of many... just not my darling... I like Tom Waits.

So, this album... 3* out of respect.... but truthfully, I can't even remember listening to it, and this was only a week ago... so it did not make an impression on me.

Sorry Nick

EaglesEagles

Rated 8/10

The Good: Fucking Eagles!
The Bad: It ain't the album we wanted...
The Ugly: album = band name...

This is what it is... a shitload better than the fucking rap album I was forced to listen to yesterday...

Reading opinions from other travelers on this 1001 road, it seems that there is a consensus that this album is bland... I can see that...

However, there are 3 big hits, and in the end... it's the fucking Eagles!

So, I am going to cheat and give them 1 star more than this album deserves...

Here's hoping my last 280 albums on this list contains at least 50 5*

4*

The Good: Fucking Supa Fly is back!
The Bad: Turns out it ain't our beloved cartoon...
The Ugly: Finding out that my lawsuit about false advertising was thrown out and I had to encure the cost...

I hate rap, that we know...
What I hate even more is having to listen to an album in which the fucking producers name is mentioned almost every tune... can you imagine Elvis Presley doing the same thing and heralding Sam Philips constantly?
Talk about a fucking ego...

And that, boys and girls, is what's wrong with Rap... the ego... well, that, and it sucks.

1*

The Good: We get some blues!
The Bad: Rather be listening to BB...
The Ugly: Feeling bad about not liking this...

I don't know the stats, yet, out of the 1001 albums on the list, how many are not anglo saxon based?
Finally get something different, start listening to it, realize that is just like listening to Muddy Waters, except in a different language... makes me wonder why this is something I have to listen to before I die?

I am getting 1001 Album's I need to hear before I die fatigue... and I still have roughly 200 to go... S.O.S.

3*

The Good: We've got 69!
The Bad: Turns out this 69 does not involve my wife and I...
The Ugly: Having to sit through someone elses 69...

You've got to be fucking kidding me here.
These cats did not listen well to Prince's advice regarding the year 1999... instead partying like it's 1999 we are slicing our wrists, I guess.

I've read people comparing Stephin Merrit's voice to that of Crash Test Dummies Brad Roberts (note that I mentioning their names like I know them, but I had to google both... because I am NOT a music journalist, evident of the fact that this record would NEVER have made it on a 1001 list...)
Shit, I lost my train of thought... right, baritone voices... this one was bad, annoying... sounded like what's his face from that '80s emo band that I can't recall right now.

Nothing on this album is unique, or groundbreaking, or special... so why the fuck did I need to listen to three albums worth of shitty songs?

Not a total waste of my time... I can see this being played at a mall, for background music to keep the masses dull like sheep being led to slaughter...

Can I give this album 3 1*?

fROMOHIOfIREHOSE

Rated 6/10

The Good: We know where this band hails from!
The Bad: Nothing good has come out of Ohio, right?
The Ugly: Realizing that the f in fIREHOSE is actually a fuelhose...

I really want to like this '90s indy crap... but it is kind of middle of the road.
Having said that, I am certain that there are die-hard fans of this band out there who love nothing more than to listen to this and recall their youth!
For me, that would be listening to the Screaming Cheetah Wheelies, who are much better at this... IMHO

Again, I really wanted to like this... however, after listening to the album 3 times I can not give it more than 3*

The Good: We get to listen to Suzanne Vega
The Bad: Nobody bothered asking me if I wanted to listen to Suzanne Vega...
The Ugly: Album equals artist name...

Isn't she the "My Name Is Luca" girl?
Why yes, yes she is...

So why am I listening to this album instead? Waiting for Luca to show up, to find out that she won't... and that Luca's spelled with a K

All kidding aside, this was an interesting listen, not the greatest, but certainly not the worse... just that, after a while, I got a little nervous... just waiting for something a little more poppy to show up.

Anyway, I listened... I didn't hate it... But, I didn't love it either...

Down the middle we go!
3*

The Good: Well, it's a convention!
The Bad: A convention with no hookers at the hotel bar...
The Ugly: Folksy hookers... with mead... and hairy armpits...

Okay, so if hairy armpits is your thing, go for it...

This started off nice... and then started loosing my interest pretty fucking fast.

I don't know, listening to modern minstrels chanting about this and that isn't my cup of tea, I guess.

Still, I sat through and I believe I deserve an award for that.

2*
