Back when this came it I remember it felt like something new was happening. But it hasn’t aged very well. It’s about as exciting as the suburbs themselves.

I know reggae is meant to be laid back, but there still seems to be something a bit lacking on this one. Still, it’s reggae, which is kind of like pizza. In that even not great reggae is still good.

This album leads me to conclude that, unlike chocolate and peanut butter, psychodelia and bossa nova are not a match made in heaven.

This is kind of fun. The lyrics are mainly of the female empowerment theme which is a nice change. I would have appreciated a bit more funk/grit. The electronic backing music is pretty soulless. I’m sure ladies have more soul in them than this album indicates. Weirdly even the hymn at the end sounds very clean and controlled. The lack of musical depth is disappointing.

Nice warm voice, lush musical production. The compositions themselves are the problem. Unfortunate that talented musicians and producers are bogged down with sub-par material.

Had never heard of this man until about a week ago when I got another one of his albums. I don’t know if he’s just worn me down, but I enjoyed this album much more than the other. More interesting guitar work. Still, I think it’s an exaggeration for him to have two of his solo albums on this list. His stuff isn’t that varied or exceptional.

Bland music, with mediocre vocals. It’s not bad enough to give only one star, but I’d bet good money you’ve been more entertained by a local cover band than you will be by this album. I think this guy is the author’s godfather’s nephew or something. That’s the only explanation for this being on the list.

This is an album that hasn’t left my rotation since it was released. Hard to believe it’s been almost 40 years! I just love that smooth vibe. Close your eyes and you are someplace dark, warm and dreamy.

Hot tip: if you get the chance to see them play live, run don’t walk. I saw them live for the first time about 5-10 years ago and despite being very familiar with their albums I was BLOWN AWAY by their musicality.

This is pure pop. Like a little white ball of fluff that bounces by. I can’t pinpoint anything specifically exceptional about it, but I do find it charming. 3.5 feels like the right score, have to decide which way to round.

Grunge is not really my jam. This album is sort of a mix of grunge, metal and punk, but not in a way that hits me in the feels at all. Imagine my relief when I found out that the original album Is only 23 minutes long, and not the over 2 hour long version that popped up on Spotify!

This is about as mediocre an album as I have heard in this project. Nothing about it stands it to me in a “you’ve gotta hear this!” way. Average mellow 70s rock music with a vaguely country twinge. Mostly plodding tempo. There is a track called “True One” near the end that has some nice guitar work. But overall I am not impressed.

The first four songs are five star level. But the level drops at the back end and the last track feels downright interminable.

As emotional as the lyrics sometimes are, the style of music is just a bit too aloof for me to form a true attachment to it.
