This cover is certainly something. Given what the other Pulp album was like, I don't expect much from this. It isn't very engaging or good, and of course devolves into creepiness on the title track. The rest of the album is tolerable, but it doesn't really pique my interest much. This album isn't considered their best, let alone one of the best of the genre, so I don't know why it's even on this list.

*Sigh* I've heard enough Morrissey bullshit over the past few months to groan Everytime I see one of his albums. However, the Smiths stuff is usually better than the solo by quite a bit. This follows the pattern, with great songs like "The Headmaster Ritual" and the title track. They're fairly typical of the Smiths lyrically, but they're far catchier than anything Morrissey's solo work has. The rest of the album isn't exactly boring, either, just not quite up to the standard of those songs. It's probably one of the Smiths' best albums.

Never heard of this...wonder if it's good. It's not great but not completely horrible. It's a kind of weird mix of new wave/rock and soul, like a better version of The The. They do some mildly interesting stuff with the instruments, but not nearly as much as the reviews might lead you to believe. It's probably more interesting on repeat listens, but this first listen yields a mostly mediocre album that doesn't really do much for me.

I'm not entirely sure why this is here, but alright. It's an OK krautrock album that features a lot of electronic experimentation and very few vocals. It lacks the grooviness of Can, making it worse in comparison in my opinion. However, it's not completely terrible and is actually pretty interesting at points, so it gets points for not being another Britpop album.

Ahh, The Rolling Stones...Again? This album is pretty much the same as every other Stones album: mediocre "white man blues" with a couple of good songs. If all of these albums have only a few good songs, why are all of them essential? This stupid band is the most overrated band of all time, and not just on this list. In general, they are not as good as most people say they are.

Brazilian jazz? Hmm... This was OK. It didn't really inspire any emotions in me beyond mild interest in the sounds. The singing was alright, if somewhat like a deeper, jazzy Bjork. The lyrics were generally mediocre and sometimes plain stupid, and the rest of the album isn't entertaining enough to make up for it(unlike yesterday's Anthrax album). It probably does belong on the list to an extent, but it's not the best thing I've ever heard.

Finally something good! I have fond memories of some of the songs on this album. Now, as for the album itself, it's often goofy thrash that tries to be socially conscious at times. However, the lyrics are frequently stupid. The vocals are worse than I remembered them being and probably the worst of the big four thrash bands. Either way, it's a fun album. That's what metal as a genre is all about-FUN. A metal album should allow the listener to let loose their worries in a barrage of noise, and this does that to an extent. So I can forgive the stupid lyrics, bad vocals, and overuse of gang choruses because of that.

*Groans* Another Morrissey album. These are almost getting annoying at this point. Of course, it's mediocre without being anything special. It's not even the politics of it all that piss me off, it's the insipid music. Every Morrissey album sounds the same, even though this one is slightly more aggressive in tone. None of them belong on the list.

Another Nick Cave album? So soon? Interestingly, it's very different from the last one I had. It's all introspective piano ballads, a far cry from the shocking theatrics of Murder Ballads. The lyrics are better here, and the songs are often good but not great. Like Murder Ballads, it's a good album that isn't going to be something I listen to often. However, it's not quite as memorable or interesting.

This probably won't be the best album ever, but it should be good. It is a pretty good new wave/pop album with strong pop songwriting. Even though it borrows a lot sonically from new wave, it is generally better than the vast majority of the new wave albums on this list, not least because Lauper is actually a good singer with an interesting voice and fun songs. That's what this album is: FUN. Where most new wave on the list is dreary and boring, this is upbeat and enjoyable. Girls-and us guys too- just wanna have fun.

Great, Coldplay. A notoriously boring yet popular band. Of course, as with most popular music, the music is utterly mediocre. It sounds like Bends-era Radiohead without the ability to carry melancholy as well. In other words, it's imitation Radiohead that lacks the craft and songs of the real thing. I understand why it's here, but it's not good.

This album is just another Elvis Costello album. It sounds basically exactly like every other Costello album, with the same nasally vocals and overcomplicated lyrics. There are some pretty good songs in here, but it doesn't leave much of an impact. Yeah, we can cut this one.

This is exactly what I expected an ELP live album to be; lots of keyboard soloing and symphonic-influenced prog rock. It was a pretty enjoyable experience, I say as someone who already likes ELP quite a bit. Yes, they are probably the most pretentious band in existence, but they are very talented and their songs are actually surprisingly engaging, so they're still a band I rather like. I can't say this is their best work, however, though it does keep it's songs to bite-size lengths.

This seems to just be another 2010s indie album-because it is. Seriously, none of these bands are very good, and they're certainly not worth hearing before you die. Berlin-era Bowie was made once, it doesn't need to be recreated by a group of amateurs with synths trying in vain to imitate their idol. Another disposable album that shouldn't be on the list.

I have no idea what this even is or why it's worth listening to. So there's that. It's a pretty good hip hop album, but it's very gimmicky and has weird lyrics. I'm not a huge fan of the corny lyrics, but they're less off-putting than most rap of the period. The flow is good, and so are the beats, but they're not the best I've ever heard. However, the album never wears on me despite its length, making it one of the better rap albums of the period.

Hmm...The Byrds. I haven't had these guys in literally a year. As I remembered, they're a pretty good folk rock band, but nothing more. The songs are all short, as is the album, making it a fun, quick listen. Some of the lyrics aren't the best, but they're not objectionable. This album is not a bad album by any means, but also not a great one. It's enjoyable enough without being much more than that.

This will be my first time listening to Van Morrison. He sounds like a white guy trying hard to emulate American blues/soul with limited success. The songs are OK, but they don't come anywhere close to his African American contemporaries or predecessors. This would be more tolerable as a single album, but a double live album of this guy is way too much, especially when he's not even very good. Really, list?

Oh, yay, another random 2000s British indie rock album. For some reason, this is a weird mix of 1960s psychedelic rock and sea shanties-two things that did not need to be mixed. The album is easily one of the worst things I've heard in recent memory, with incredibly annoying songs full of terrible lyrics and grating dynamics. There are very few redeemable songs on this album, and most of it is just straight up awful. Why is this on the list?

Ahh, Kanye. He made a few beloved albums and then started spouting extreme-right viewpoints that hurt his own kind. Granted, this is a pretty good rap album. There is some disgusting lyrical content here, but there's also some very cool samples and unique beats. Features appear frequently across all the songs, often helping them to sound more unique. Either way, it's very different from the gangster rap of the 1990s. For his music to be good and then his political beliefs to be so abhorrent is a tragedy.

I had Eminem's other album a few months ago, so I have an idea of what to expect from him. Of course, it's technically excellent rap, with some of the most tightly packed rhymes and masterful flow of any rapper. However, the lyrics are dumb and awful as usual. Seriously, can this guy shut up about violently killing people and shoving his penis into them? Such is the dichotomy of Eminem; awful lyrics delivered very well. I liked this better than his other one, though.
