Really pleasant album and I'm glad I got to listen to it for the first time. She's got a phenomenal voice. Only issues are that it gets a bit samey and in a couple of the tracks I don't think the instruments back her up enough, but it's still a great record

Standouts:

Son Of A Preacher Man
The Windmills Of Your Mind
So Much Love

Outlaw Country is my favorite form of country, and Marty Robbins is probably the earliest pioneer of this subgenre of music

This sort of music I don't usually mind, it just bores me. But because of his glorious voice and the topics of storytelling, it kept me hooked

Favorite songs:

Big Iron
Billy the Kid
The Master's Call

Leonard's singing and storytelling carries this one, because I was fully prepared to dismiss it as another boring folk rock album, but the way he sings and the lyrics he uses is very good and quite clever.

EliminatorZZ Top

Rated 8/10

Compared to Tres Hombres, since it's the other ZZ Top album on this list, they've moved to a more "modern" hard rock sound by making it faster, as opposed to the slower Bluesy stuff, whilst still incorporating some Blues element. I think I prefer it this way.

Overall a very good album. That first three album run is sensational. High 4

GorillazGorillaz

Rated 6/10

I think they've sold Gorillaz short here by having this album and this album alone on his list. Demon Days and Plastic Beach are better records

Bluesy rock with a Malian twist, makes a lovely combination

It's nothing overcomplicated or massively groundbreaking, just a pleasant and catchy one

I found this quite an interesting album, wouldn't agree with the some here saying it's generic

It's an inconsistent one, with some bangers like the title track and Justified and Ancient, with some shitters like No More Tears. Although you probably don't give much of a fuck about the music if you're having a rave eh

Rated 6/10

Loved the bass. Everything else was a bit shit. Got old quite quickly

There are some underrated bangers on this one, like POWER and Lost In The World. His production and samples are on point - I especially liked the King Crimson one.

It doesn't get a 5 because the quality isn't really consistent through out. Couple of duds in there

That was fucking good.

Beats and instruments were great, basslines even better. She's phenomenally talented at a variety of things, ranging from fast paced rap to slower singing.

Imma have to listen to her other shit soon

I had never heard of these guys before, so I wasn't sure what I was about to listen to. I definitely wasn't expecting it to be this good holy shit.

I'm a sucker for funky bass lines, of which this album is rich with. It also has disco elements and a fair bit of soul influence. Put that in the pot with some hip hop, then you've got a meal man. Even the Stevie Wonder tribute was great too.

Favorite tracks:

She's Fresh
Scorpio
The Message

I'm not really one to give this a proper review really because this sort of music loses my interest at some point, but their voices are gorgeous and it wasn't anywhere near as monotonous as other folk albums, meaning I did enjoy a fair few songs, like the opening one. A high 3.

Oh and their Bob Dylan pisstake did make me giggle too

What is the point to these instrumentals? Half of them album is 20 minutes straight of these. Makes it worse when they sound like utter gross

The actual songs are pretty good, with my favourites being the opening and ending tracks. So why you gotta ruin it David?
