Gutter rap over a drum machine backing track. If you like listening to n1994s say n1994 then you do you. I prefer actual musicians creating actual music.

Rated 4/10

The main issue I have with this list is too many artists have multiple albums on the list that don’t deserve them. If we weeded this out there could be a much more diverse list.

This is a prime example, don’t get me wrong Missy Elliot deserves to be on the list, but this album isn’t in the same league as under construction, so isn’t required. Don’t get me wrong in its own right it’s a good album, but we don’t need two Missy Elliot albums. So because I’m comparing this to under construction (which I rated 4) it only gets a 2. If under construction wasn’t on the list, this would probably get a 3.

I thought I would like this more than I did, but to be honest, I found Timbaland's production a little boring.

Rated 6/10

This isn't really my thing, but it's not too bad. I like the production in general, and there's some good flowing, vibey songs in here. It's more chill than I thought it might be, and more singing than rapping which I didn't expect. It was quite listenable.

Rated 10/10

Streets ahead of all those dick swinging Gansta bores from around the same time.

Rated 6/10

Timbaland's fingerprints are all over this, and this is more his album than Missy's, I think. Missy's flow has always been solid and unique, but I think lyrically, she made huge improvements in later albums that I personally think are more noteworthy.

I also feel like a couple of cameos were unnecessary: Busta was just playing hype man instead of adding musical value, and Lil Kim and Da Brat have never done it for me (though I acknowledge Lil Kim's flow). Aaliyah, to me, was the only guest that added value.

This album is a good start for Missy. She only got better as she went on. I appreciate how Missy "got weird" later in her career, which is something I feel like people who listen to this genre had little tolerance for at the time. Missy was definitely her own person, which I always thought was cool

Rated 4/10

Nice to hear some melodies on a rap (?) album but definitely not my thing

Rated 4/10

This is a good album when Missy is rapping but there is way too much generic 90s R&B. 2.4

Rated 8/10

Timbaland's production on Hit 'Em wit da Hee is sick. I really like how it plays in the more RnB tracks, see Best Friends.

Rated 6/10

Some really good songs on here, but I found the quality dipped a bit in the second half, and it's way too long. It's dated in strange ways as well, like some of the slang makes no sense anymore. In general I prefer Missy's hip hop stuff to her R&B. Love I can't stand the rain though!

Rated 4/10

Not a huge fan of this one. Repetitive, generally uninteresting - it hasn't aged all that well. There were a few sticky rhymes that I liked, but other than that, not my favorite. 2/5.

Rated 10/10

She way great from the jump and has only improved since.

Rated 10/10

Straight fire

Rated 4/10

In a fake patois Missy Elliott says I got the rhymes to make you jump, jump, jump. And when she does rap this is true. Missy has bars. Unfortunately the majority of this album is r&b slow jams. Based on my limited knowledge of missy elliott and the album cover I was expecting a hip hop album. I was disappointed. The beats are dope though.

Rated 6/10

weird the first song is just busta rhymes.

Rated 2/10

The Rain = one of the most overrated songs of my youth. I continue to hear it heralded as a visonary amazingly piece, but I can't stand it. The rest of it is just blah as well. 1.5/5

Rated 2/10

This album did nothing for me and I wanted to turn it off many times. Uninspired 90s era R&B that's just flat out boring at best. The only semi-interesting things were the Busta bookends, but they weren't even songs. Hard pass, will never put on again.

Rated 6/10

Since he doesn't have an album of his own, I'll mention here that Busta Rhymes has a really interesting flow that is super charming. As for the rest of the album, it's pretty alright. I like Missy Elliott's rapping, and some of the backbeats are great, but the bragging gets annoying, especially the praise of Timbaland that I assume he wrote himself. None of the features feel that present to me either, other than the before mentioned Busta Rhymes. An alright album that just feels very much like an album that you'd imagine if I just said "rap album".

Rated 8/10

Probably the greatest female MC (with apologies to many old skool and a fair few modern artists - shout out to salt n pepa, Queen Pen, Ms Dynamite, Rico Nasty and little simz). Production is flawless, samples expertly chosen, and yet the whole package falls just short of her later works of genius.
Very close to another 5 🌟 album, but (in my opinion) drags a bit towards the end, so just falls short.
