At times I felt it would work perfectly for a sunny summer morning, sipping tea and feeling all of your problems melt away...
...and then at other times I wanted to jab something down my throat. How they ever got THAT famous is beyond me. They couldn't even write half their own songs on here. I will say, though: they knew when to put an album out of its misery.
Rated 4/10
The Beatles are my favourite band but this hasn't aged well. Half of the album is covers, and not very good covers for the most part, and only one classic song - All My Loving. To put it in comparison, PPM and Beatles for Sale probably have two or three classics on them.
I still enjoy this but that's mainly because I grew up with it (and it's short), compared to the Beatles other work this is extremely weak.

decent album filled with originals and covers.

Though they wear their influences conspicuously with classic RnB and rock and roll covers and a brash surf sound, you can start to see the emergence of their more complex pop song writing to come. But this is them still in full teenybopper mode, jangly and sweet upbeat love songs with a funny playful side. They mastered the genre though, these songs are nearly all pretty perfectly crafted little gems and the recordings are brimming with energy.

Not a bad album from the Beatles. I wouldn't call it their best, but it's far from their worst. 3.5/5

It took me just over 100 albums to get my first Beatles album. Great early showing by the greatest of all bands still finding their way. A good mix of originals and covers was a smart production move to firmly establish them in the hearts of new fans.
Not my favourite Beatles album, but still better than more than half of this list.

There are some good jambs on here. A lot that just didn't catch my attention though. I didn't actually look up which tracks were originals and which were covers, but the ones that I thought felt like originals vs covers were more enjoyable.

Quick! someone introduce these guys to Dylan. 1.92

Oh man. After listening for the first time in a VERY long time, I'm beginning to understand why Brian Wilson was perceived as such a genius. Most of these songs are just terrible. And John Lennon really did not like women. I really love their later stuff so I don't really know what to make of this...

Was wondering when my first Beatles album would come up! There's so much early Beatles goodness in this one, which I adore, but also some tracks I'm not a fan of (All I've Got To Do, Don't Bother Me, You Really Got a Hold on Me).
Iconic tracks: All My Loving, Please Mister Postman, Till There Was You, Hold Me Tight
Till There Was You feels like the start of Paul doing his own thing -- I think they start coming into their own in this album, but you really start hearing their own sound in A Hard Day's Night. This album still has a whole bunch of covers and general samey-ness across most tracks.
This one is 3* for me, not one of my top Beatles albums. It gets a star over 2 because it's the Beatles, but in isolation I'm not sure this album stood the test of time.

Easy to forget that once upon a time, being a popular band didn't involve mostly playing original songs

It's the Beatles. What else can be said?

"And whi-ile I'm away-ay,
I'll write ho-ome everyday-ay"
Niet om aan te horen.
Absolute dieptepunt hierbij: Ho(-o-o-o-o)ld Me Tight. Dat is me toch een gedateerd saai nummer. Het enige nummer dat wat minder saai wordt gezongen is Money. Maar ook hier: eigenlijk moet het Mo-o-o-o-o-oney heten....

This was the one Beatles album on the list I wasn't positive would get 5 stars at first. Then I listened to it again. And it's an EASY 5 star. Sure they song structure and lyrics are simplistic, especially compared to their other, later, works, but it's early 60s rock distilled into an album. And I need to listen to older Beatles more.
Rated 6/10
Expected to dislike this, as I've never been a big fan of the Beatles' early work. However, it wasn't too bad. I enjoyed "All My Loving", "Till There Was You" and "Please Mister Postman" especially. Not an incredible album by any means, but interesting to to see the early stages of a great band.

I mean, it's the Beatles, it slaps. Such nice progressions and interesting layered vocals over top. I recognize All My Loving, but all the songs are approximately equally good.

If there is a Beatles album that could be removed from the list it’s probably this one, still a good album but too many covers and with their debut and hard days night already on the list I’m not sure what this album adds. Maybe harsh as if this was an album by another 60’s group I’d be singing its praises. But the Beatles already have 6 other albums on the list so I’m measuring it against those other albums.
Rated 8/10
This was the one Beatles album I picked up on CD during the 2009 remaster reissues because I didn't have it in any other format already. It made me appreciate the earlier Beatles much more. Some real nice songwriting and choice covers. Such great energy.
Rated 8/10
I am a much bigger fan of mid to late Beatles, but this album does have some good ones. I like this is the first time you get an inkling of what the Beatles are to become. 4/5
