I did this. It’s not as good as Purple Rain, but it’s still good. A bit long. 3.5/5

Rated 8/10

Any double album is bound to have some filler in there. So it’s not Prince’s tightest album, but it does have some excellent slower soul on it. Slow Love is just gorgeous. The man was a genius.

Med "The Cross" og "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night".

Rated 6/10

Definitely the best Prince album so far! :) Had a bit more substance, still very 80s, but that's okay! :)

Rated 4/10

This is his best album? I'm starting to think the Prince discography is a joke. I've somehow managed to get all his albums on this list in a very short time-span, and it seems to me that all he talks about is boning - so much so, that I am starting to believe he is a virgin. I cannot imagine somebody who actually has sex writing one billion songs about it. It'd be tripe.

Better than Coldplay

Rated 6/10

I thought I was missing out on Prince all these years, but I think he just has some great bangers, and the rest of his catalog is just meh. Most of this was kinda crappy 80s pop.

Rated 8/10

Honestly, I prefer it to Purple Rain…

Rated 4/10

Better than I expected, although there were a few songs that were a definite nope for me. Overall, I can't say the album turned me into a Prince fan, but I can understand better why he is popular.

Rated 6/10

D'ailleurs, en 1987, quand ce double album a déferlé, j'étais ado et j'écoutais probablement "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" de The Cure.

I don't talk about Prince very much, but I probably should. He certainly deserves to be in the Funk/New Wave conversation I've been having for the last few months. This is just as weird (or more so) than Talking Heads, it's even more out there than The The, and I love that.

This album is a party? Maybe that should be a statement. Like, this would have come out in a time when it was hard to buy compilations and there was no way to easily build your own playlist, so I'm convinced this record was built to be a 'press play to party' record. That's kinda neat, Prince is the right guy for that.

Maybe I'll revise this rating up in the future, but let me see how I feel about the rest of the Prince catalog.

Rated 4/10

Prince has always been one of those artists I only end up listening to because other people like him, and this album didn't change my mind one bit. I'm not going to leave the room if this comes on, but I'd much rather listen to Trout Mask Replica.

Rated 8/10

I thought this was a really fun album, with a few weird moments. I’m a big Prince fan and I think he wrote incredible songs but I don’t think he ever released a truly flawless album.

The highlights for me were the title track and It’s Gonna Be A Beautiful Night

Rated 4/10

This album was a chore and a half. This is far from the king of pop title that I've heard be used about Prince. The vocals were fine, the instruments were fine, but just not great. I was honestly annoyed throughout most of this album

Rated 8/10

I dont think this was nearly as good as Purple Rain, or maybe even 1999. He’s great on here again of course, but I think the length is just way too much. I also don’t think it’s as coherent as some of his other projects. Loow 4

Rated 8/10

Loved a lot of this. Wish Prince would lean into his strengths more (guitar work and epic vocals). But I like the variation.

Rated 6/10

Rated 6/10

Yet again a double album that could be better as a single album. Too much Prince in one sitting.

Rated 8/10

Listened to this twice all the way through.
First was the original 1987 release. I honestly thought it was a set of good songs completely ruined by the overly compressed outdated production.

Second time was the 2020 remaster which thankfully fixes these issues and brings some dynamics and space to breathe.

Rated 10/10

Prince at the peak of his powers.
He wanted a triple album but comprised on a double. Filled with absolute gems.
