I really enjoyed Superfly. This one did nothing for me by comparison
Rated 6/10
Curtis Mayfield’s distinctive voice is outstanding as usual. Really strong message that resonates across time in America. Will there ever be a time when black artists DONT need to keep telling us about what’s going on? Aretha Franklin, Gil Scott-Heron, Stevie, Public Enemy and every hip-hop and rap act that came after (except Eminem, named after a type of candy), UB40, Solange … it just never stops.
That being said, interesting music that didn’t really stick with me. Classic soul, well done but not very memorable for me.

3/5. Not one of my personal favorite Curtis Mayfield albums. His singing is still great and the production is smooth but most of the songs on this one have just never stuck with me as much as those found on an album like “Move on Up.” That being said I do at least love the closer “love to the people”.
Rated 8/10
Slow soulful and brilliant
With Curtis I’m never sure if it’s soulful funk or funk full soul - probably the former due to the slow tempo
Wah wah guitars , trumpets , socially conscious lyrics and a perfect falsetto voice
Rated 8/10
Whooa Nelly do those horns cut right through your soul.
I have such a hard time with the Soul Falsetto and wish the smalltz-y ness of it wasnt there so i could actually focus on and appreaicte the lyrics. I've had some really challening albums recently, that need more than 1 listen and this one is no exception.
Is it a 3? Is it a 4? For the cover alone it gets a 4.

Curtis Mayfield, it's an album of his. It has like, more songs of his on it. The quality of this album mostly comes from the fact that Curtis Mayfield made anything he touched in the 70's great. This didn't really have many stand out songs but was just solid throughout. Perhaps I found it a little lacking in Funkyness, it was very much in the Philly Soul style of music.

*Love the horn sections and funk style
Rated 8/10
A buttery smooth voice with some gentle funky sounds and a social conscience. It didn't all land with me but overall it was a very enjoyable listen.

"blue monday people" i think they're called new order

Old school funk. For sure Prince listened to this guy. 3.5 stars.

This has a great start but I felt burnt out at the end. 6/10

i don't remeber a single song from this album.

Rather middling but funky. Suggestive but also political - great mix!

This is a good week for soul and funk albums. Although I will admit that I have a strong preference for the latter and this skews towards the former. The first side last song here are incredible though. And everything in between is solid. There's No Place Like America Today taps into something spiritual, political, and humanistic. The themes are still relatable, and even the album's name is as loaded and powerful as it was when it came out. Even if I can't relate precisely to the experiences on here, I think Curtis Mayfield very powerfully invokes the universal. Even if I don't see myself coming back to a ton of these songs, there is a power and a bespoke grace here. Curtis Mayfield handles his subjecat matter very elegantly. I am ultimately very glad I heard this.

This was ok. It was a bit slower than I tend to personally like. I saw one of the top global reviews of this say the music sounds like something Chef from South Park would sing to and I laughed harder than I should have.

Pues no me he guardado ninguna por ahora, pero me ha parecido muy interesante y disfrutable. Repetiré.
Rated 6/10
Classic soul with the right amount of funk along for the ride. Favorite track: Hard Times
Rated 8/10
Slow, subtle, and soulful, but still pretty funky and groovy. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Rated 4/10
Not the most essential of Curtis' albums, but in here he is as soulfull as ever. Overall, more of a fan of his Superfly era.
