This was fun

Just a quick note on the recording / audio quality: If you're having trouble or somewhat uncomfortable listening to this, it's likely because most of the music of this era were mastered for AM radio, which did not have sufficient bandwidth to carry all the sonic information a band produced, nor did the overwhelming majority of playback equipment (speakers) have to capacity to reproduce the whole sonic spectrum. Everything sounds dry and tinny; there is virtually no bass.

It's like these guys made songs 8x as long as a normal song with 25% of a great song idea. I appreciate the concepts on this album, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Actually, cut these down to like 3.5 minutes, and a lot of my gripes go away leaving basically only my "overly repetitive" complaint

⭐⭐⭐, I guess? I feel like that's too high and 2 is too low

This was alright in places, meh in others, and in a few cases not good at all. On average, ⭐⭐⭐? Feels a bit generous...

This is still as different and fresh to me as it was when it came out. Tori Amos was absolutely not the kind of music I was listening to in the early 90s, but she still somehow always made it into my rotation. This is the first time I have listened to this particular album on good equipment, and I'm very impressed. It's very well-recorded, and her unique stylistic choices make this an album I regret not paying more attention to.

I love the singer/songwriter with a piano combination, generally sparse arrangements with such changes to more dense segments, the occasional soaring strings run, and her her unique voice. Great album, and honestly a bit unexpected to see here

Based on how I felt the first 3 or so songs, this was going to be a 4 or 5. The tempo slowed way down and wasn't near as much fun after that. Still, not bad. Not 4 either

I'm really looking forward to listening to this, as I have been a big Jeff Buckley fan for more than 30.years and have never made time to listen to his dad .

Well! That was jarring. On the positive side, I think he's got a great voice and I liked the music. However, I just listened to the musical equivalent of someone putting ketchup and mustard on a decent medium rare steak.

⭐⭐

I was severely disappointed in the lyrics, not fond of the vocal delivery (more spoken word than it is singing), and pretty meh about the music. I will say it was well-recorded.

I had high hopes for this, given the hype about the album and the artist. Kind of a bummer

⭐⭐

2003 was a year I was consuming a lot of new music, but somehow this band escaped my notice until 2025. I'm not sure if I would have liked it then, but I definitely do now. I'll definitely be exploring their discography further. The "sounds like a Western movie soundtrack" songs are what I'd like to hear more of.

Favorites: anything with sounds from Mexican music

Could do without: breathy indie stuff

⭐⭐⭐ for the music
⭐ For the freshness

Brian Eno as an artist makes shit music. Brian Eno as a producer makes great music because there are artists involved that are not Brian Eno. This is an album by Brian Eno the artist, and is therefore shit. If Eno wrote more than 100 tracks for this album and narrowed it down to 10, i consider myself fortunate for being spared those additional tortures.

On a more positive note, I saved some time with the number of awful tracks I skipped, and I'll be able to listen to something I like this morning

⭐⭐

Every performer on this album is an absolute master. Often with collections of talent like this, there is a "too many cooks in the kitchen" sort of feeling. Muddy's band work together perfectly to showcase their talents and perform a tight, cohesive sound. Expertly recorded as well.

This is a near-perfect album for me. A perfect opening song, great guitars, vocals, insane harmonica, rocking piano, and the perfect amount of drums. I can't ask for much more

Unbearable. This is like Billy Corgan singing into a broken toy microphone over the sounds of cats mating run through a guitar pedal

Once of the my least liked albums so far on this list. Will actively avoid this band going forward .

Another reviewer said "I love music! I love Stevie Wonder!" That does it for me too.

I haven't ever heard They Won't Go When I Go, and wow, what a blessing that song is.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one. Thanks, Stevie!
