I have watched the Grammy’s every year since 2018. I remember this being nominated for a bunch of awards. I never listened to it. It just seemed to be one of those like a Jon Baptiste or a Jacob Collier where critics seem to like it but no one in reality actually listens. I liked it. The structure of going from spoken word interlude to a song that covers many of the same themes is interesting. Also this gets bonus points for being (I’m pretty sure) the only album in all 1089 on the list to feature Anderson. Paak. Her vocals are good and the instrumentals have a nice variety. Favorite songs were Pick Up Your Feelings, Price Tags, and The Other Side.

I like his voice. This album feels wide and sweeping while at the same time feeling separated and intimate. Like using the restroom during an orchestra performance where you can still hear the music through the wall. Also shoutout Richard Hawley back again! Favorite songs were The Bones Of You, Grounds For Divorce, Weather to Fly, and The Fix.

I like The Hives. They are a fun band. These are fun songs. This loses points because it is a compilation and that goes against the spirit of 1001 ALBUMS you must hear before you die. Favorite songs are Hate To Say I Told You So, Supply and Demand, and The Hives Are Law, You Are Crime.

I like how Zack does his best imitation of a TiE fighter from Star Wars in Township Rebellion. Understanding the political values of this album and Rage as a whole is an important media literacy test that many people fail completely. This is THE rap metal album. Often imitated, never duplicated.

A day in the life of a true Brexit geezer. Least charismatic performance of a somewhat funny story. The flows just aren’t there and the hooks are mostly uninteresting.

We’ve been on an absolute heater lately . I love this album. It is very drum-forward. Waves of distortion and noise that are cut through by Crispy drums. Shoegaze is such a cool genre that tickles my brain the right way and this does a good job at walking that line between more standard alternative rock fare and noise.

I need to apologize: I totally thought Cat Stevens was the guy behind Cats In The Cradle. I guess him being named Cat and the song having Cat’s in the title confused me for years. Totally different dude. This guy sings a lot like Peter Gabriel. I could listen to this style of early 70’s singer-songwriter music all day. Toss it in the Jim Croce/Todd Rundgren/Carole King/Labi Siffre collection. Just a bunch of really well written and performed songs. I listened to this four times before writing a review not because I was unsure of my rating or thoughts, just because I enjoyed it that much.

This one has been hyped up quite a bit and I see why people like it. I don’t think it’s the best thing since sliced bread, but it’s good. Definitely liked this more than Third. The first three songs, especially Strangers are a great introduction to the style. Some of the bass work in the latter half especially on Pedestal are really good too. Favorite songs were Mysterons, Sour Times, Strangers, Wandering Star, and Glory Box.

Everything I loved on Treasure done even better. I could listen to Cherry Coloured Funk all day. The vocals are just entrancing. The guitar tone on the title track is great. Love this whole thing.

A really pleasant bit of early 60’s nostalgia. His voice is great and the lyrics are impactful. The perfect album for washing the dishes in the dark. Favorites were Coles Corner, Just Like The Rain, The Ocean, Born Under A Bad Sign, and Tonight.

I saw the global average rating and prepared myself for the worst and this just… isn’t. Like I’m confused what the issue is that people have with it. I think this is interesting. The use of noise and unconventional structure and dynamics works as a whole package here. Plus it samples Sweet Leaf one of my favorite Sabbath songs straight off rip. Favorite songs were Sweet Load, Human Cannonball, and Kuntz.

The album cover is so 70’s, but I can imagine why people bought it. Helps that music here is pretty good too! Solid glam rock offerings here. Love when a saxophone is thrown my way. All I Want Is You really reminds me of Is She Really Going Out With Him? Favorite songs were The Thrill Of It All, Three And Nine, All I Want Is You, Put Of The Blue, and A Really Good Time.

Nope that’s it. Drawing a line in the sand. One Kings of Leon album? Okay that’s fine they’re pretty popular. Two Kings of Leon albums? Probably excessive but the debut and the one with hits can be argued. Three Kings of Leon albums?!?!? Far too many. Daily reminder this made the list over anything by Weezer, Daft Punk’s Discovery, Songs for the Deaf, Coltrane’s Giant Steps, anything by Modest Mouse, anything by MF DOOM, Eric B and Rakim’s Paid In Full. I could go on all day. Indie slop (derogatory) The Bucket is an alright song, but the fact that this album ended and I didn’t even notice proves it all the more.

This is a good record, but I just think it’s comparatively weaker next to a Sticky Fingers or Let It Bleed. Sympathy For The Devil is an all timer, but some of tracks in the middle are just a little weaker. The piano rocker that is Salt Of The Earth really closes out the album strong. Favorite songs are Sympathy For The Devil, No Expectations, Street Fighting Man, and Salt Of The Earth.

Until today I have never listen to this entire album front to back. I have, of course, heard most of these song aplenty of times, but never in context. This has been long hyped as “the best Beatles album” and that reputation somewhat kept me away for one reason or another. Same reason I have never seen The Godfather. I understand it now. George is the best Beatle. The medley is amazing. This album sounds crispy clear. I still think Revolver is the best album by them. That opinion is subject to change on any given day.

Best way to describe this album is expansive. Everything here is huge. I really like this album. The softer elements are really complemented by the use of orchestral instrumentation. Cop Shoot Cop… is a behemoth. Favorite songs were the title track, Come Together, I Think I’m In Love, Electricity, Broken Heart, and Cop Shoot Cop…

In the words of a great poet “Now I be kickin’ shit like Solange in the elevator” This album is very smooth. The transitions between songs and interludes have a great flow, the drums and bass compliment her voice well and the featured artists do a good job. Any album that features Sampha is good in my book. Favorite songs were Cranes In The Sky, Mad, Don’t Touch My Hair, and Junie.

I mean yeah it’s a boom-bap masterpiece. One of best Wu-Tang solo albums (Probably my third favorite). I wonder what the longest sample chain is on the list. There are two three-album chains connected on this record. Guillotine contains a sample from Tical which contains a sample from The Shaft soundtrack, and Glaciers of Ice contains a sample from Triangle by the Beau Brummels and was sampled in The Avalanches’ Since I Left You. The beats here are incredible, the flows are hard hitting, the bars are great.

I had to listen to this album a couple times to get it, but I’m glad I did. The vocals remind me of Dinosaur Jr. and I like how they play with dynamics. Favorite songs were Rockets are Red, Let Me Come Back, Learned It, and 7 Seas.

I liked listening to this. Some of the songs reminded me of Beck. Favorite songs were Fade Away, Step It Up, and Creation.
