that was really hard to finish. i really think i would have liked it more if it was an instrumental album

Sonic Youth just aren't my thing. I like other noise projects, but somehow Sonic Youth just doesn't strike me. It's just kind of frustrating how they always sound like they don't know how to tune their instruments nor even really play them properly at all, even after all these years.
At least they named one of the songs right: "Total Trash" is total trash. I'm not getting those 7 and a half minutes back, and I have no desire to listen to it again.

I prefer EVOL and Goo way more.....bloated...

Similar to the other Sonic Youth album on this list in that there's really not much that stood out. The girl's singing was rough, but the guy's was a bit better. Just kind of noise overall though. 2/5

So noisy and boring
Rated 10/10
This is probably Sonic Youth's best album. Effortlessly cool; Kim Gordon's detached voice really suits the material.

Nabacano, ujednačeno, bez tačke i zareza, suvišno, beskorisno. I jedna polovina ovog duplog je previše.
Rated 6/10
Fine album if a bit self-indulgent...but then, it made it all the way to this list and there's a lot of that around.

Cum on feel the noize!

A little harsh for my taste, I need more melody. But I could appreciate it. Probably need to give it another listen sometime to catch the subtleties.
Rated 10/10
Really enjoyed this one which was surprising since I didn’t like the previous album, Sister, that I had from them.
Rated 6/10
Some of the songs on here are hard, gritty songs that are certified bangers. Others make me feel like someone's piercing my ear with a jackhammer.
Rated 10/10
I've never listened to a full Sonic Youth album before and this was definitely the one to listen to. Blew me away. I love Kim Gordon's vocals so much and I think Thurston Moore's are a good contrast to keep things fresh. I was about to list my favorite tracks but really I like them all and there's enough variance in the sound that every one of them stands out. Has to be a 5.

Most songs were far too long. I wish I knew why these idiots in particular feel the need to ruin a perfectly good song with noise. Extended runs of fucking instrument abuse. Just....why?? On more than one occasion, they would be onto something cool, then they would decend into some noise riddled horseshit and ruin everything. These guys do not need a double album. A standard length album is more than enough Sonic Youth...
Favorite songs: Teen Age Riot, Rain King, Eric's Trip, 'Cross the Breeze
Least favorite songs: Total Trash, Silver Rocket, Providence, A) The Wonder, B) Hyperstation, "Z) Eliminator, Jr."

Love this band, and this is easily one of their best albums. Their droning wall-of-noise sound is something you feel as much as hear. The compositions evolve as they progress, building on simplicity and repetition, and ultimately exploding with chaotic energy. Years of previous experimentation results in full understanding here.

I don’t adore Sonic Youth, but they were just so omnipresent in the musical realm of my late teens/early 20 as I transitioned into listening to “secular” music. I never listened to a lot of them, but it seemed like all the bands I loved loved Sonic Youth. This is the third album of theirs I’ve gotten, and it's pretty much par for the course - no better, no worse. I know they're hugely influential, but I wouldn't seek this album out to listen to on purpose.

I saw them on the tour for this. Completely rocked my world. The South Bank Show documentary from around the same time is worth seeking out. It has some great live to camera performances including a wild half abandoned broken string Silver Rocket.
Rated 6/10
This was something new in the 80's, and it's done pretty well. At most times, bands don't know how to incorporate noise into their songs, but they did it pretty good.
Rated 8/10
A noisy guitar-driven sprawl of an album, ahead of its time and very influential on modern post-punk/indie rock.
